EN24

EQUIVALENT / AKA

AISI / SAE 4340 | 34CrNiMo6 (DIN / EN 10083) | 1.6582 (Werkstoff) | 817M40 (BS 970) | SNCM439 (JIS) | 40NiCr4Mo3 (IS 1570) | Nickel-Chrome-Moly steel

EN24 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum high tensile through-hardening alloy steel, normally supplied hardened and tempered. The nickel addition raises toughness and hardenability over EN19, allowing full properties to be developed in heavy sections, while chromium and molybdenum provide strength, wear resistance and resistance to temper embrittlement. It gives high tensile strength (typically 850-1200 N/mm2 depending on condition), excellent impact and fatigue strength, and good ductility. It can be nitrided to give a very hard, wear resistant case with a tough core. Steel type: through-hardening (direct-hardening) alloy structural steel.
