EN47 is a chromium-vanadium spring steel supplied for hardening and tempering. The medium-high carbon content provides the strength and elastic limit required for springs, chromium adds hardenability and wear resistance, and vanadium refines the grain and forms carbides that improve fatigue strength, toughness and resistance to softening. After heat treatment it shows a high yield to tensile ratio, excellent elasticity and good fatigue life under repeated loading, and retains properties better than plain carbon spring steels at moderately raised temperatures. Steel type: chrome-vanadium spring steel (through-hardening alloy steel).
